Understanding health can be quite complex, but the basic nature of health is simple.
Understanding health can be quite complex, but the basic nature of health is simple. Poor health and disease can usually be broken down to two controllable causes:
- Toxicity: We are aware of the many toxins in our environment. As many as 100 chemicals may be found in your drinking water alone. We are exposed to pesticides, heavy metals, as well as pollutants. Toxicity also includes many other levels. Emotional toxins also rob us of our health and vitality. I believe in treating health on four levels; emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental.
- Malnutrition: Even the American Medical association is finally accepting the fact that we cannot get enough nutrients from the foods that we eat. Processed, altered, and genetically manufactured foods simply do not contain the basic nutrients we need to support good health.
Malnutrition: Even the American Medical association is finally accepting the fact that we cannot get enough nutrients from the foods that we eat. Processed, altered, and genetically manufactured foods simply do not contain the basic nutrients we need to support good health.
My teacher, Dr. John Christopher, stated that all disease was a form of constipation. Too many toxins trapped in the body create an environment for ill-health. Based on this, health can be simplified to these two principles; getting the toxins out, putting the nutrients in!
From Nature we get the basic building blocks we need - food, water, air, and light. Synthetic drugs are designed to attack disease, but how can the body heal without the proper nutrients that it desperately needs? Our grocery stores contain foods mostly nutrient-poor and filled with poisons, all for convenience and higher profits.
A complete health plan must contain all essential components in optimum quantities:
Essential fats: Necessary for proper brain and immune system development, flexible skin, and smooth digestion. Supports glandular and organ functions and keeps joints supple and bones strong. Essential fats include flax, olive, evening primrose, sunflower and sesame.
Phytonutrient rich foods: There are a number of ‘super foods’ that contain high quantities of essential nutrients, in a form most easily assimilated. These should be standard in every diet! These foods include chlorella, nutritional yeast, barley grass, alfalfa, spirulina, as well as a variety of herbs and grasses.
Digestive enzymes: Enzymes digest all the food and make it into a form small enough to pass through the minute pores of the intestines into the blood. Enzymes in the blood take prepared, digested food and build it into muscles, nerves, blood and glands. They assist in storing sugar in the liver and muscles, and turn fat into fatty tissue.
Food enzymes consist of:
- Lipase- to break down fat
- Protease- to break down protein
- Cellulase- to break down cellulose
- Amylase- to break down starch
Probiotics: Poor eating habits and the use of antibiotics can create serious problems in the gastrointestinal tract and the immune system. These beneficial bacteria support the immune system, help the body produce various essential prostaglandins for balancing hormones, and possibly help prevent pathogenic organisms from gaining a foothold in the body.
Minerals: These can only be obtained through diet, and are essential to health. Proper balance must be maintained, and the quality of the minerals has a great effect on the level of absorption. Calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sulfur are amongst the minerals needed in relatively high levels in the body. Many ‘trace’ minerals are also needed for a variety of functions, including muscle response, nerve transmission, metabolism, and the production of hormones.
Vitamins: Natural vitamins are organic food substances found only in living things. All are absolutely necessary for proper growth and maintenance of health.
Antioxidants: These help rid the body of free radicals, which may be a major cause of many of our life threatening illnesses including cancer and heart disease. Common antioxidants include vitamins A, C, E, plus the mineral selenium, and we are now learning about the many antioxidant qualities of a large number of herbs, such as bilberry and ginkgo biloba.
Strengthening the Immune System: Over the past century we have seen life spans increase and many infectious diseases decrease. Unfortunately, we have also seen cancers dramatically increase, as well as heart disease and auto-immune diseases. Obesity is out of control, as well as diabetes and hypoglycemia.
Modern science has taken credit for much of the positive changes in our health. I do believe that the main reason we have less infectious disease is due to modern conveniences such as plumbing, refrigeration, and cooking appliances. Now many of these diseases are making a comeback in very strong fashion, possibly due to the overuse of drugs, especially antibiotics.
Besides the basic nutrients necessary for a healthy body, there are many great products available to assist you in strengthening your immune system.
Astragalus: This Chinese herb is known as an adaptogen, helps to restore balance in the body as well as strengthen bodily functions. May help boost immunity after chemotherapy and radiation.
Beta Glucan: Binds to and activates macrophage cells, the first line of defense against viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic attack.
Olive Leaf: This amazing herb helps to interfere with the amino acid processes of pathogens, to prevent them from reproducing. This may prove to stop even viral cells from reproducing.
Ai/E10: Antigenically infused bovine colostrum, possibly the most potent immune stimulator ever discovered. Produces a very large increase in natural killer cell activity.
Medicinal Mushrooms: Highly respected in traditional Chinese medicine, more than a dozen varieties of mushrooms are proven immune stimulants that have been used in Asia for more than 3000 years.
Echinacea: Immune stimulator for colds, flus, and sluggish immune systems. Helpful for relieving pain and swelling.
Exercise is essential, as is proper mental conditioning. Turn off the TV, walk away from negative people, begin to appreciate this miraculous world that we live in. There are many courses available to assist you in creating a more positive life. One that I found extremely beneficial is called PSI. You can look into that, or find one that fits what you desire in your life.
Nutrition is no longer a fad, or something you may consider doing at some point. Proper nutrition, I believe, has become a necessity for life! If you are generally fatigued, have hormonal imbalances, get chronic pains or headaches, have digestive imbalances, etc., your life just may depend upon your correcting your nutritional imbalances!
