Natural Skin Care   Date: Wednesday 31 August, 2005
News Summary:
What we put on our skin can affect us even more than what we eat or breath!

News Content:
Is there a natural cure for acne? Can skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and premature wrinkles be treated? Let’s examine some natural methods of acne treatment, acne scar treatment, and eczema treatment.

The Chinese consider that acne and other forms of skin problems are caused by blood heat and/or heat toxins, and can be treated by cooling the blood or eliminating heat toxins. Lonicera, Sophia, dandelion and forsythia are commonly used herbs for clearing heat and toxins from the body and the blood. An effective herbal formula would promote a discharge of toxins while relieving skin inflammation.

Several factors must be considered for treating any skin disorder, including acne and eczema. Diet and nutrition, intestinal health, candida albicans, and hormonal balance may all be key factors in creating and maintaining healthy skin.

I find it highly beneficial for anyone to begin their program with a cleanse, which includes kidney, liver and colon. It is then recommended to avoid sugars, trans-fatty acids, fried foods, and iodine.

Since skin disorders are commonly treated with long-term antibiotics, many people develop an intestinal overgrowth of candida albicans. This often makes the skin worse and must be treated for the skin to improve. Consider a combination of Candex, Inuflora, and Acidophilus.

Eczema

(Atopic Dermatits)

Eczema, characterized by chronic itchy and inflamed skin, appears to be an allergic disease with many eczema sufferers eventually developing hay fever and/or asthma. Eczema patients generally release higher amounts of histamine and other allergic compounds compared to people without eczema.

Infants that are breast-fed and develop eczema may be the result of a transfer of allergic antigens in the breast milk. Therefore mothers may want to avoid the most common food allergens: milk, eggs, peanuts, as well as soy, wheat, citrus and chocolate.

In one study, 81% of childhood eczema were a result of either milk, eggs or peanut allergies. I also recommend elimination of artificial colors and preservatives, including MSG and nutrisweet.

There are a number of supplements that may help to inhibit excess histamine release. My favorite is quercetin, while ginkgo biloba and grapeseed extract also have shown benefits.

Recommended Supplements (daily):

  • Vitamin A-25,000 IU

  • Vitamin E-400 IU

  • Zinc-45 mg

  • Burdock Root - 6 capsules or 2 teaspoons

  • Flax seed oil - 1 - 2 tablespoons

Acne

I highly recommend beginning any treatment for a chronic skin disorder with a cleanse and a candida treatment. The benefits are far reaching, and many people find that this is all that they need.

Refined sugar may be a major factor in people with acne. Analysis of the level of glucose in the skin demonstrated that patients with acne often do not metabolize sugar properly. Along with avoiding sugar, chromium supplementation may be very useful, and has often shown to induce quick improvements in patients with acne.

What you put on your skin is as important as what goes into your body. Avoid oils and greases, alcohol, preservatives, and the many ‘untouchables’ that are so damaging to your skin.

Recommended Supplements (daily):

  • Vitamin A - 25,000 IU

  • Vitamin E - 400 IU

  • Zinc - 45-60 mg

  • B6 - 75 mg

  • Pantothenic Acid - 300 mg

  • Selenium - 200 mcg

  • Vitamin C - 1000 mg

There are also a number of topical treatments that are beneficial:

Tea Tree Oil - a wonderful antiseptic and anti-fungal that is generally affective with minimal irritation t the skin. The MMI products are Raaj (changed his name), best to list separately, vit C spray, etc, most you already have listed.

Sulfur - A topical antiseptic, sulfur has been used for thousands of years for the treatment of skin disorders.
